As we enter the cold and flu season and with the COVID 19 virus, now is a perfect time to give your body that extra boost and strengthen and support your immune system. Immunity is your body's natural defence against disease causing bacteria andviruses. A healthy diet, adequate sleep and exercise are all factors that strengthen your immune system but there is something else you can do to keep your immune system strong and healthy. Superfoods are foods that have particularly high amounts of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Their high concentration of nutrients makes them great for your health. Making sure you regularly incorporate particular superfoods into your diet may help boost your immune system and prevent the effects of pathogens (germs) before they cause illness.

Turmeric can help strengthen your immune system!

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a flowering plant of the ginger family. Like ginger, the roots are used in cooking. Turmeric’s brilliant yellow colour is thanks to the antioxidant, curcumin which has been shown to exhibit significant antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity in the body. Curcumin is a powerful compound with numerous health benefits . It possesses anti-inflammatory , antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal activity . Curcumin has known immune system modulation properties, meaning it can alter immune responses in the body. It helps the body naturally cleanse the respiratory tract, helps fight the infection and its anti-inflammatory qualities may help relieve symptoms from the direct impact of cold and flu such as congestion of the airways and pain. A good way to get a healthy dose of turmeric is by substituting your coffee or hot chocolate for a gold turmeric spice latte!  RECIPE HERE
