HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT MATCHA LATTE

The perfect matcha latte is simple, smooth and completely your own.

A few small details can make all the difference — from the temperature of your water to the milk you choose.

Whether you like yours hot and comforting or iced and refreshing, this is our simple guide to making a matcha latte you'll want to make again and again.

01 — CHOOSE YOUR MATCHA

Start with a matcha you genuinely enjoy drinking.

For a classic latte, look for a vibrant green colour, a fine texture and a smooth, balanced flavour. A good quality Japanese matcha will give you a beautiful base without needing much else.

02 — GET THE WATER RIGHT

Water that's too hot can make matcha taste bitter.

Use warm water rather than boiling water — around 70–80°C is a good place to start. You only need a small amount to whisk your matcha into a smooth paste.

03 — WHISK UNTIL SMOOTH

Sift your matcha into a bowl and add a little warm water.

Using a bamboo whisk, whisk gently in a quick back-and-forth motion until the matcha is smooth and lightly frothy.

Take your time. The goal is a silky texture with no lumps.

04 — ADD YOUR MILK

Pour your prepared matcha over your favourite milk.

Oat, almond, coconut or dairy all work beautifully — choose whatever you genuinely enjoy.

For an iced latte, pour over plenty of ice. For a warmer version, gently warm your milk before adding it to your matcha.

05 — MAKE IT YOUR OWN

This is where the fun begins.

Add vanilla for something soft and sweet, strawberry for a fruity twist, or enjoy it simply with matcha and milk.

There is no single right way to make your latte.

The perfect matcha is the one you look forward to making.
